![]() If nothing else, better organizing the contents of each book reduces the number of flipping between multiple books to consult rules relevant to a particular type of match. Tl dr, yes, BattleTech is cheaper than a certain other game, but there's still a lot of weird inconsistencies that can make rulebook collecting a frustrating affair. IMO, TO and SO are hurt by how they were split. Doesn't help that not all of them have enough disposable income to drop $40 for the hell of it (in fact, BT's low cost is a big part of what got them into it). And, some of the local X-Wing converts wanting to get into naval combat have to buy a completely different book in addition to the one with actual naval rules. TO as a whole, including rules and equipment that are dependent on each other, now costs $80 in its "cheaper" form than the $60 it used to (if memory serves). Ideally, those and a few other rules could easily be transferred to other books, slimming TO down enough to make it one book again (which I would very much like, as TO has had one of the most jarring splits of all the split books), without really diminishing its value much at all.Īlso, it makes it a pain to direct newcomers to advanced books. ![]() Which is why it annoys me that TO was split for being too large when several pages from naval equipment and rules alone could be transplanted into the book that actually has the rules to use them (and is also badly in need of some extra meat, as it's currently the thinnest book in the bunch). Believe me, I love BT as much as the next guy. ![]()
